Wild Earth Ensemble

● Session 07  ·  Filmed at The Music Room, Erie, Colorado

The artist

Wild Earth Ensemble play a route around the globe, music of Turkey, Ireland, Venezuela, Appalachia, Scandinavia and the Middle East, alongside their own tunes. Sandra Wong on violin and nyckelharpa, Beth Quist on hammered dulcimer and voice, Victor Mestas on piano, Bijay Shrestha on tabla.

That instrumentation is the whole idea. A Swedish keyed fiddle, a North Indian tabla and a Venezuelan pianist inside the same four bars is not a fusion gesture, it is four musicians who each went a long way into somewhere different and then found the overlap.

They describe themselves as sharing “a deep care and concern for the stewardship of our planet,” and they play benefits to match, for Wildlands Restoration Volunteers and the Citizens' Climate Lobby.
