Los Lo Los

● Session 02  ·  Filmed at The Music Room, Erie, Colorado

The artist

Los Lo Los call it low rock blues, and the name is doing real work. Cipriano Ortega sings and plays a custom two-string slide bass, built for him by luthier Scott Lofquist after he heard what Mark Sandman of Morphine did with the idea. Bret Batterman plays drums. Garrett Pavlicek plays saxophone. That is the entire band, blues, jazz and rock with most of the instruments taken away.

One disclosure worth making plainly: Bret Batterman is the producer and engineer of this whole series. He records every session that happens in this room. For one afternoon he came out from behind the desk and someone else pointed the microphones at him.

Their debut Lo Lo House came out in spring 2025, recorded mostly in Breckenridge. Ortega also built a one-string diddley bow for an installation at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art, to show how music can begin with a tightened wire and a slide.

They released “I Know You (Pt. VI)” from this session as a single in January 2026.
