The Gabriel Mervine Quartet

● Session 04  ·  Filmed at The Music Room, Erie, Colorado

The artist

Gabriel Mervine is a Denver trumpeter who started playing professionally at thirteen and has spent the years since making the case for straight-ahead jazz, melodic, tradition-literate, and not remotely interested in being difficult. He teaches jazz trumpet at the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music, plays in the Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra, and has worked with Christian McBride, Terence Blanchard, John Scofield and Natalie Cole.

His 2021 record Say Somethin' was made for Octave Records, the label arm of Boulder hi-fi manufacturer PS Audio, cut live to DSD with no overdubs. Which is to say he had already made a record for people who care how a trumpet actually sounds in a room, before he ever walked into ours.
